A quick reference for what Softonic accepts: the supported platforms and file formats, and the signing requirements each one needs before submission.
Accepted platforms and file formats
- Windows:
.exe,.msi, or.msix. - macOS:
.dmgor.pkg. - Android:
.apk. - iOS: no file — add your App Store listing URL.
- Web apps: no file — add the URL.
- Browser extensions (Chrome and Firefox): coming soon.
Maximum file size: 1 GB. A listing can be published in up to 18 languages, with AI-assisted translation.
Signing requirements
- Windows and macOS: executables must be digitally signed by a verifiable certificate authority. Unsigned binaries are not accepted.
- Android: the APK must be signed with your Google Distribution Key — the same key used for your release on Google Play. Debug-signed builds, test certificates, and builds signed only with the Upload Key are rejected.
If your Android app was rejected for a signature mismatch, see Softonic publishing requirements: quality, compliance, and troubleshooting for how to fix it.
For the full submission flow, see How to publish a new app.
For every other requirement — content, screenshots, localization, and what happens after you submit — see Softonic publishing requirements: quality, compliance, and troubleshooting.
