Manage versions and content

Here’s how version statuses, the Main Version, and updates work in Softonic Publishing Center.

What statuses can a version have?

Each version of your application can have one of the following statuses:

  • Published: the version is visible on Softonic.com and available for download from the product page.
  • Unpublished: the version is hidden on Softonic.com but remains available in the Publishing Center for editing or future republishing.

A version can also be approved but not published, if manual publishing was selected during submission. In this case, you must publish it manually for it to appear on the product page.

What is the Main Version?

The Main Version is the version of your application that appears by default as the download option on the Softonic product page.

  • It usually corresponds to the latest published version.
  • If the latest version is unpublished, the Main Version automatically becomes the next available version.
  • The Main Version always appears in the sidebar of the application page.
  • It is visually identified with a specific icon.

Can I edit the Main Version?

The Main Version can be edited, but it isn’t modified directly: a revision of that same version is created instead.

In a revision, you can only change:

  • Name
  • Description
  • Other product page fields

You cannot change:

  • The version number
  • The associated binary file

For example, version 1.0.1 becomes 1.0.1 (V2) when revised.

How do updates work?

If your app’s Auto-update feature is turned on (the default for all Android and iOS apps), it updates automatically via Softonic’s auto-updater as soon as a new version is detected.

If you want to update your application manually, create a new version just as you would for a new app and submit it for review.
